Be Inspired- A creative study visit to India, Easter 2019.

Open the door on a creative curriculum through first hand experience in India.

India at EasterMonday 8th- Friday 19th April 2019.

This Easter study visit aims to introduce a new ground of ideas and experience, to inspire and develop a place based creative curriculum, and to give space and time for thinking creatively about professional practice.

The visit will begin and end in the South Indian state of Karnataka, in a rural location on the outskirts of the developing city of Bangalore, and will include a four day excursion either to the city of Jaipur in the north Indian state of Rajasthan, and the nearby wildlife sanctuary of Ranthambhore, or to the North Karnatakan ancient temple town of Hampi.  The visit is an opportunity to explore the artistic and creative cultural traditions that come from the contrasting north and south regions, and to witness their changing modern context.

During the journey we will meet with craftspeople working with traditional Indian artistic practices and visit inspiring crafts livelihood initiatives. We will visit places of local traditional cultural significance, engage in hands on craft activities, and share ideas about how to teach cross curricular themed topics using place based resources inspired by the activities and the journey. There will be time to develop rural and urban contrasting locality studies; looking at development and change with a strong focus on practical enquiry based activities for using on return to school. We will engage in visits to schools which have long term partnerships with schools in Somerset, looking at opportunities for shared curriculum projects and sustaining linking activities.

This visit is relevant for any education practitioners who wish to: be inspired by the experience of travelling though India, learn from local artistic traditions, enhance their own teaching practice, develop ideas for a creative curriculum approach for teaching and learning about India, and enrich place based creative teaching.

The study visit is being planned and led by Cathy Bushill, assistant headteacher of St Vigor and St Johns primary school, part of the Bath and Wells Multi Academy Trust. The visit is being facilitated and delivered by an education group called Sangam- SEC who have 15 years of professional experience organising educational study visits and curated journeys in India. www.sangamprojects.com.
